On Wednesday, July 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the Vatican for a meeting with Pope Leo XIV. The meeting took place at the summer papal residence Castel Gandolfo, near Rome. The Pope suggested the Vatican as a platform for peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
During the meeting, Zelensky thanked the Vatican for its support of the Ukrainian people and discussed the humanitarian issue of the return of Ukrainian children who were illegally taken to Russia. The President expressed a shared desire for peace and the end of the war, relying on the Vatican's support in facilitating peaceful dialogue at the international level.
