Honoring the Memory of Hero Maksym Ryabetskyi

Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russo-Ukrainian war. Today we remember Maksym Ryabetskyi.

On December 14, 2023, during the execution of a combat mission on the outskirts of the village of Zarichne, Donetsk region, Dynamo fan, soldier of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade, Ryabetskyi Maksym Olehovych with the call sign Riba, heroically lost his life.

Maksym bravely defended our freedom from the Russian invaders since 2018. He was a platoon commander and always stood steadfast for his comrades. Riba had been part of our 'white-blue' family since childhood. We extend our condolences to his relatives and friends!

Maksym Ryabetskyi was born on April 9, 1999, in Nizhyn. From 2005 to 2014, he studied at Nizhyn Gymnasium No. 3. He was passionate about sports: practiced judo, chess, and football, and eventually became an active Dynamo fan.

From 2014 to 2016, he studied at Nizhyn Lyceum of Nizhyn City Council at Mykola Huhol National University.

After lyceum, he entered the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, but later went abroad. After some Time, he returned to Ukraine and joined the ranks of the defenders of Ukraine in 2018.

At the beginning of 2022, Maksym went on a business trip to Nizhyn to recruit soldiers for military service, so the full-scale invasion of the occupiers caught him in his hometown, where, with the SSO unit, he conducted active counter-sabotage activities in Chernihiv region. But as soon as there was an opportunity, he immediately went to the front lines with his comrades.

In September 2022, during the counteroffensive in Kharkiv region, he participated in the liberation of the settlements: Kam'yanka, Studenok, Seredne, Olhivka, Hrekivka. From December 2022 until mid-summer 2023, he and his brigade carried out combat missions in the area of the Serebriansky Forest.

In April 2023, he was appointed commander of the mortar platoon of the fire support company. On June 3, Maksym was wounded by shrapnel. But just three days later, he requested to return to the fire positions because he could not remain inactive. In June 2023, the brigade was operationally redeployed to the Kupyansk direction.

According to the Chernihiv Regional TCC and SP, during his service, he was awarded the following medals:

  • For Military Service in Ukraine
  • For Special Service of III Degree
  • Honorary Badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 'Golden Cross'
  • Distinction 'Cross of Honor'
  • Distinction of the Commander of the Joint Task Force 'Lyman'

Farewell to Maksym Ryabetskyi took place in Nizhyn at the Cathedral of All Saints, and he was buried at Myhalivske Cemetery.

'The war has taken a Hero from Ukraine, and the best person in the world from his family. A bright soul has departed to the afterlife, and the number 24 will forever be engraved on a granite stone. And now he will not be the one to give me flowers, but I will give him my love for the rest of my life!' - wrote the wife of the fallen, Yana.

Maksym is survived by his parents, brother, and wife.

'Glavkom' joins the moment of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the struggle for their Homeland. We remember those who fell at the hands of the Russian invaders, light candles of remembrance, and bow our heads in sorrow during the nationwide moment of silence, honoring the bright memory of citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all soldiers, civilians, and children, all who perished in the fight against Russian occupants and as a result of the attack of hostile troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
