Ukraine's Parliament Approves New Social Benefits for Military Personnel.
Social Guarantees for Military Personnel
According to TSN.ua: On February 25, 2023, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, passed draft law No. 13646, establishing a transparent system of social guarantees for service members. This legislation is a significant step in providing structured support for those defending the country. It regulates monetary compensation, leave entitlements, and job security for military personnel, while also setting uniform rules for calculating assistance to the families of soldiers killed or missing in action.
Compensation for Families of the Fallen and Missing
Under the new provisions, the families of deceased service members will receive a one-time payment of 15 million hryvnias. For families of those missing in action, monthly payments of approximately 120,000 hryvnias have been instituted. Mykhailo Fedorov, one of the draft law's initiators, stated:
"It creates a clear and fair system of social guarantees for military personnel on active duty." - Mykhailo Fedorov
He also emphasized the clear rules regarding the total amount of aid:
"We are proposing a clear rule: the total amount of assistance is ₴15 million." - Mykhailo Fedorov
The draft law aims to provide for military personnel during their service and ensure social guarantees after its completion. These changes are designed to improve the living conditions of service members and their families by ensuring necessary financial support. A critical aspect is also the preservation of jobs for military personnel, which is vitally important under current circumstances. Laws regulating social guarantees are an integral part of supporting military service in Ukraine and protecting the rights of service members and their families.
The adoption of this legislation underscores the state's commitment to its military personnel and their families, especially within the context of the ongoing conflict. Providing financial aid to the families of the fallen and missing is a crucial step in supporting those who have lost loved ones due to the war. These changes may positively impact the morale of troops and their families and help enhance the prestige of military service in society.
