Ukraine's Parliament Approves One-Year Military Service Deferral: Eligibility Criteria.
Draft Law No. 13574: Mobilization Deferral
According to Novyny.live: On February 11, Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada passed Draft Law No. 13574, which grants a temporary deferral from military conscription during mobilization for specific groups of citizens. The legislation received 243 votes in favor from the national deputies. This move comes as Ukraine continues to manage its defense forces amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Key Provisions of the Legislation
Approved in its second reading and as a whole, Draft Law No. 13574 introduces a one-year deferral for two main categories:
- Military personnel who signed an 18-24 month contract and have already completed one year of service;
- Individuals liable for military service and reservists aged 18 to 25 who have already been discharged from service.
The amendments are designed to support young people facing specific circumstances that complicate their military service obligations.
The adoption of this law represents a significant step in assisting young citizens who may find themselves in difficult personal situations. The deferral can ease their transition back to civilian life and allow them to focus on education or career development. This decision also reflects the state's effort to balance national defense needs with the individual circumstances of its population during a period of mobilization.
