New Legislation on Financial Aid for Critical Infrastructure Personnel

According to TSN.ua: On February 25, 2023, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, passed Law No. 14303. This legislation establishes a system for providing financial assistance to critical infrastructure workers who have been injured due to shelling. The law defines who is eligible for these one-time payments and the conditions for receiving them, updating the procedure for aid in cases of injury or death at critical infrastructure sites. This move addresses the urgent need to support essential personnel during the ongoing conflict.

Details of the Compensation Law

The law's provisions include payments to the families of affected workers. Eligible recipients of compensation are:

  • spouses,
  • children (up to age 23 if they are students),
  • parents, and dependents.

This framework is designed to offer financial support to families who have suffered losses under tragic circumstances.

The compensation amounts stipulated by the law vary based on disability category. Individuals with a Group I disability will receive 800,000 UAH, Group II will receive 500,000 UAH, and Group III will receive 200,000 UAH. In the event of a worker's death, the payment will be 1 million UAH. Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced monthly supplements of 20,000 UAH for certain categories of these workers, highlighting the importance of social support during wartime. These measures are part of broader efforts to maintain the operation of vital services like energy, water, and transportation.

The approval of this law demonstrates the Ukrainian government's efforts to ensure stability and support for those harmed by the war. The compensation payments and monthly supplements can significantly ease the financial burden on families who have lost providers or sustained injuries. It also underscores the importance of protecting the workers who ensure the functioning of critical infrastructure under extreme conditions.
