Zelensky spoke about Biden's refusal regarding NATO before the war: details of the conversation

According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that before the start of the full-scale invasion by Russia, he received a clear response from U.S. President Joe Biden regarding Ukraine's future membership in NATO.

At a briefing, Zelensky noted that during the first negotiations with Biden, he openly raised the issue of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance, as the course towards NATO is enshrined in the Constitution and is considered a real guarantee of security.

"From the first dialogue, I honestly raised this issue. I clearly asked, can Ukraine be in NATO, because we want this and understand that this is a real guarantee of security. This was still before the war. President Biden told me: 'No, you will not be in NATO,'" Zelensky said.

The head of state emphasized that he repeatedly returned to this topic during subsequent contacts with the American side. According to him, over time, these questions in the U.S. presidential administration began to elicit various reactions — from ironic smiles to irritation.

Zelensky also noted that the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union could be significantly accelerated.

This statement underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine and its desire for Euro-Atlantic integration. Ukraine's efforts towards European integration are gaining momentum, especially in the context of the challenges posed to the country due to Russian aggression. It is important that the issues of NATO and EU membership remain in the focus of the Ukrainian leadership, as this will affect the future of European security in the region.
