Residents of the village of Berezyna block the M-06 highway: demanding compensation for explosions

According to ТСН: In the Zhytomyr region, in the village of Berezyna, residents gathered for a protest, blocking the M-06 Kyiv-Chop highway. People took to the streets to express their sorrow and outrage over the powerful explosions this summer that destroyed their homes.

The protesters are demanding compensation for the destroyed property, which they have not yet received. They display posters and organized an action in rhythm: they close the highway for ten minutes to allow cars to pass. However, during this time, significant traffic jams form in both directions.

What do the police say?

Representatives of the National Police reported that law enforcement officers are present at the scene to maintain order during the rally.

Demands of the residents

The village of Berezyna is part of the Hlybochetska territorial community. The head of the community, Serhiy Sokal'skyi, noted that local residents are addressing the government with a demand for compensation for the damages incurred.

“The issue was not with the village council but specifically with the government. By the way, people have already unblocked the Zhytomyr highway, but whether they will block it again is unknown. I hope not, if they receive the funds. Today, a decision was made at the village council session to provide the second part of the material assistance to the victims. UAH 7.3 million has been allocated from the local budget. People will receive these funds from December 23 to 24,” says Serhiy Sokal'skyi.

Sokal'skyi also added that the residents of Berezyna are demanding compensation from the reserve fund of the state budget.

“It is known that UAH 90 million will be allocated for the victims by the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration. The total amount of damages is UAH 234 million 800 thousand. The government is supposed to pay the difference to the people. As far as I know, a decision has already been made, and I hope that these funds will be fully disbursed to the victims,” notes Serhiy Sokal'skyi.

Let us remind you that on July 2, a powerful explosion occurred near Zhytomyr, causing damage to residential buildings.

Thus, the situation in Berezyna remains tense. Residents are waiting for the promised assistance, and their protests underscore the seriousness of the issue and the need for swift action from the authorities. The situation with compensation for the victims still requires attention, and the public hopes for a quick resolution of this issue.
