What's wrong with the all inclusive system
Turkey attracts tourists precisely with the opportunity to use the 'all inclusive' system in hotels without overpaying for services. At the same time, a report by the Turkish Waste Prevention Fund states that up to 23 million tons of food are thrown away on average each year, and about 35% of fruits/vegetables do not even make it to the table.
To combat food waste and reduce extravagance, the Presidential Council on Agriculture and Food Policy plans to take appropriate measures. These include developing a comprehensive report and presenting it to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. If the issue is brought to parliament, necessary legal norms can be introduced.
How much food is wasted
According to Bingel, about 12 million loaves of bread are thrown out every day in Turkey, totaling 4.38 billion annually. And this is while the world faces the threat of global hunger. He is convinced that it is necessary to limit the amount of food served in restaurants, otherwise reducing waste won't be possible.
The volume of food that needs to be disposed of annually per person is 102 kilograms. If food waste can be reduced by at least 5%, the state would save billions of lira. It is also necessary to develop effective supply chains, optimize harvesting and storage processes.
What else Ukrainians should know
We remind you that in the first half of 2025, Ukraine exported agricultural products worth 11.3 billion dollars, which is 9% less than last year. Main buyers are countries of the European Union, Asia, and Africa, with Turkey among the leaders.
We also wrote that Ukrainian travelers can manage with a minimal budget for vacations abroad. For just 300 dollars, one can stay in a hotel in the Bulgarian resort of Golden Sands and in Greece in the village of Agii Apostoli.
Planning all inclusive vacations in Turkey may change due to the fight against food waste and extravagance. The country's government is considering abandoning this system to reduce the amount of wasted food, which could significantly impact the tourism and hospitality industries.Read also
