Cynicism of Russian Politics

Russia pursues an overt and cynical policy, justifying the killing of innocent people to achieve 'peace' on its terms. Political expert Volodymyr Fesenko notes that while European leaders are reacting to Russia's crimes in Ukraine, the ambiguous position of the US remains critically important. The reaction of European countries does not particularly worry President Putin, so Ukraine should focus on influencing those who can change the course of negotiations.

The Use of Terror to Achieve Goals

Fesenko emphasized that Russia uses various methods, including terror, to achieve its goals.

“This approach is part of their policy. Putin clearly adheres to the principle that any means are good, including the killing of innocent civilians, to achieve 'peace' on Russian terms. Russia kills innocent people while talking about negotiations. For them, it is a method of achieving political goals. We should not be surprised by this cynicism — it is necessary to remind those who still believe that an agreement can be reached with Putin. The history of attempts to negotiate with Hitler has shown their futility. To achieve peace, force must be applied against Putin,” Fesenko noted.

Inconsistency of the International Community's Reactions

Politicians in Europe understand the problem, however, the inconsistency of the US president's administration's positions hinders effective actions.

“Some of its representatives believe that Putin wants peace and that an agreement can be reached with him, overlooking Russia's crimes. The killing of innocent people occurs not only in Kyiv but daily in various regions of Ukraine. This needs to be talked about and reminded,” the political scientist emphasized.

Further Reaction to the War

Fesenko noted that we should not expect a consolidated reaction from the international community to the shelling of Ukrainian cities.

“The world is divided in relation to this war. Putin has few direct allies, and even his 'friends' distance themselves from such crimes, but rarely condemn them. If condemnation does occur, it is neutral, not pointing to a specific culprit. Therefore, hoping for an abstract collective reaction is pointless. The reaction will be from our partners who support us. And those who influence negotiations, like the Trump administration, need to be actively impacted. Those who ignore Russia's crimes share responsibility for these killings. This is important to remember and remind. We need to focus on those who determine the negotiations and pressure on Russia. Our friends have already stated their positions,” concluded Volodymyr Fesenko.

It should be noted that the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, Serhiy Bratchuk, stated about the use of terror by Russia against the civilian population as a means of coercion to capitulation.

This situation underscores the complexity of the international environment and the need for a clear position not only from European countries but also from the US regarding Russia's aggression in Ukraine. The reaction of the international community shapes not only the diplomatic but also the humanitarian context, which affects the people suffering from violence.
