Assad's troops switch sides to the rebels with weapons – CNN.
In Latakia, former security forces of Bashar Assad's regime are handing over their weapons to the transitional government of the rebels. Similar disarmament schemes are taking place in other cities in Syria.
According to CNN, videos were already recorded at the beginning of the week showing men in line waiting to surrender their weapons to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the new Syrian government.
The videos show government representatives informally talking to the men and photographing them as they surrender their weapons. The government has allowed fighters to move across the 'liberated' territories of Syria until the legal process is completed.
Similar weapons return schemes are also being used in other cities, particularly in Daraa. The U.S., EU, Great Britain, Qatar, and Turkey also maintain contact with the rebels managing the country.
