Syrian forces have exited the country's second-largest city, Aleppo, to regroup and launch a counter-offensive against rebels. Government troops stated that the retreat was part of a regrouping ahead of reinforcements arriving, with 'dozens' of soldiers reported killed or injured in the fighting.

It was previously reported that rebels led by the group 'Hayat Tahrir al-Sham' had taken control of Aleppo.

The civil war in Syria began in 2011 as a confrontation against Bashar al-Assad's regime and has evolved into an international conflict involving various states and terrorist groups. Currently, the parties involved are receiving military assistance from different countries, including Russia, Iran, Turkey, and Western states. 'Hezbollah' is also aiding Assad's regime, but has focused its forces in Lebanon.
