Legal Changes on the Horizon for Service Members Raising Disabled Children

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is preparing to amend its laws to allow military personnel who have children with disabilities to leave service. Currently, individuals in this category are exempt from conscription into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, if they are already mobilized and serving, they have no legal pathway to discharge. Parliament’s Stance on the Issue

Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the parliamentary finance committee, announced that the proposed legislative changes could be reviewed as early as April. He stated:

“If someone has a child with a disability, they are not drafted into the Armed Forces. But if they are already called up, they cannot be demobilized. That is unfair. In my view, this is a flaw. The law should be consistent for everyone.” — Danylo Hetmantsev
