Missile and Drone Assault on Poltava Region Leaves Thousands Without Power.
Poltava Region Targeted in Overnight Assault
According to TSN.ua: In the early hours of February 26, Russian forces launched a combined aerial attack on the Poltava region. The assault involved Shahed attack drones, Iskander and Zircon ballistic missiles, and Kh-101 cruise missiles. Strikes resulted in significant damage across two districts, specifically Poltava and Lubny.
Widespread Power Outages and Damage
The consequences in the Poltava district were severe, with electricity cut off to 18,209 residential consumers and 1,781 businesses. Fires ignited by the strikes have been extinguished, but the widespread lack of power continues to create a difficult situation for residents. This attack is part of a sustained Russian campaign targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has intensified during the winter months.
The situation in the Lubny district is also concerning, with damage to critical infrastructure severely disrupting daily life. Authorities are taking necessary measures to restore power and address the aftermath, though information on the full extent of the destruction is still being assessed.
This assault underscores the persistent threat to civilians in Ukraine, as ongoing strikes continue to damage critical infrastructure. Government and emergency services are working to restore normalcy to the affected areas.
Amid the ongoing war, ensuring a rapid response to such incidents is crucial to minimize the impact on the civilian population.
