Aviation expert Bohdan Dolintse reported that Russia is actively using fake targets to deceive Ukrainian air defense. He explained that these fake targets are used to confuse radars, creating an illusion that combat aircraft or other enemy objects are displayed on the screen. This creates problems for air defense systems as resources are spent on destroying these fake targets instead of real threats. In addition, dummy drones are usually inexpensive, so they quickly pay off due to the costs of real air defense system missiles.
