Four Ukrainian soldiers and a female soldier who underwent amputations and severe injuries reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is 5,895 meters high. This was reported by the Second Wind project.
„They did it! For the first Time, four Ukrainian soldiers after amputations and a female soldier after severe injuries climbed to a height of 5,895 meters, the summit of Africa – Kilimanjaro. This is not just a climb, it is a breakthrough of the impossible. Proof that after injury or amputation life does not end – one can find their second breath and do what seemed impossible,“ it says in the statement.
The ascent of Kilimanjaro is special since no Ukrainian soldier with a lower limb prosthesis has reached the summit before. Even in the world, there have been no cases where four soldiers on prosthetics and a soldier after injuries simultaneously undertook such a group ascent.
„And all this is not for records, but for those who are currently struggling with injuries and doubts and do not know if they can live a full life. Ukrainian soldiers once again showed the world: resilience is not just a word. It is, first of all, people who rise even where others give up,“ it says in the statement.
Also, veteran of the 503rd separate marine battalion Ivan Havrylko and Captain Dmytro Rezvyi, a shipbuilding master and ocean rower, are crossing the Atlantic Ocean by rowing, raising funds for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers.
