Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew stated that during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, scenes offensive to Christianity and the Holy Gospel were presented.

According to the Patriarch, the Olympic Games are the highest sporting event that attracts the interest of millions of people worldwide, and the opening ceremony holds a solemn significance as it conveys positive messages on a universal level.

Patriarch Bartholomew added that this event featured scenes offensive to Christianity and the Holy Gospel, as well as to every civilized person who respects faith and religious symbols.

He called this performance at the Olympics blasphemous and noted that the offensive images did not enrich the ceremony but rather impoverished it. The Patriarch hopes that the rejection of such behavior by people will send a strong message to those responsible for such situations.

During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, a drag queen performance was shown on stage, depicting a scene similar to Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper". This outraged Christians who believe that it mocks Christianity.

According to the artistic director of the ceremony, the scene was not inspired by "The Last Supper" but depicted a pagan festival related to the gods of Olympus. He assured that there was no intention to offend anyone or anything.

Oligarch, former deputy, and deacon of the Moscow church Vadim Novinsky claims that the West denies God and spreads atheism, which can lead to destruction similar to that which befell Sodom and Gomorrah. He recalled the performance at the Olympics, which reminded him of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper".
