Despite Fico's threats: Slovakia will not stop supplying electricity to Ukraine.
The Slovak grid operator SEPS will continue to supply electricity to Ukraine despite statements from Prime Minister Robert Fico regarding a possible suspension of deliveries, reports the Czech publication Novinky.
State operator SEPS confirmed its readiness to ensure emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine in accordance with the agreement with Ukrenergo. Under the contract, the volume of such supplies can amount to 150 MW.
Additionally, the company continues to carry out cross-border electricity transmission through all sections in the usual mode.
Following Robert Fico's statement made on December 27, 2024, regarding the possible suspension of electricity supplies due to Ukraine's rejection of the resumption of Russian gas transit, the situation has escalated.
In response to this, President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that Fico had received instructions from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to open a 'second energy front against Ukraine.'
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to Fico's statements, comparing his actions to those of Putin, and reminded that Ukraine pays significant amounts for electricity imports from Slovakia.
