Wizz Air's New Sofia Flight Network

According to Novyny.live: Wizz Air has announced a significant expansion of its operations in Bulgaria, introducing five new direct routes from Sofia. To support this growth, the airline has added an eighth aircraft to its base in the Bulgarian capital for the summer schedule. This move strengthens the low-cost carrier's position in a competitive regional market.

New Flight Destinations

The newly announced routes will connect Sofia to the following destinations:

  • Sofia — Budapest
  • Sofia — Palermo
  • Sofia — Rhodes
  • Sofia — Hurghada
  • Sofia — Sharm el-Sheikh

Flights to Budapest and Rhodes will commence on July 3, with the inaugural service to Palermo following on July 4. Tickets for these new routes are available starting from 15 euros. The expansion focuses on a mix of European city breaks and popular sun-and-sea holiday spots.

Wizz Air now serves 62 routes from Bulgaria to nearly 20 countries. The airline's Bulgarian fleet has been modernized with Airbus A321neo aircraft. Furthermore, Wizz Air plans to increase its capacity by 81% for the summer 2026 season compared to summer 2025, indicating strong projected demand for air travel in the region.

This network expansion by Wizz Air highlights the active development of Bulgaria's aviation sector, which is expected to have a positive impact on the country's tourism industry.

By linking Bulgaria with these popular tourist destinations, the airline aims to attract more travelers, providing a potential boost to the local economy. The planned capacity increase in the coming years also underscores the growing competition among carriers in Central and Eastern Europe.
