Ban on winter fishing from November 1: what awaits violators.
Starting from November 1, 2025, a ban on fishing in wintering pits will come into effect in Ukraine. This measure is implemented to preserve fish resources during the cold season when fish are most vulnerable. Violating this ban can lead to severe fines and compensation for damages.
According to inkorr.com: From November 1 until the beginning of the spring-summer spawning period of the following year, fishing in wintering pits is prohibited. These water bodies are unique places where fish gather in large groups, making them easy targets for poachers. The fishing ban is introduced to provide fish with a peaceful winter period and to promote their successful spawning in the future.
What penalties await violators
There are two main penalties for violating fishing legislation: administrative fines and compensation for damages. The amount of fines will depend on the severity of the violation. For example, fines for fishing in prohibited areas can reach hundreds of hryvnias, as well as the potential confiscation of fishing gear.
The strictest penalty involves mandatory compensation for damages to the fisheries for each illegally caught specimen. For instance, catching five pikes in a wintering pit may incur a fine along with compensation, which may ultimately amount to a significant sum.
Where is it allowed to fish from November 1?
During the ban period, fishing will only be allowed outside of wintering pits. Certain types of fishing gear are also specified, and the number of hooks is limited in public water bodies.
This initiative is an important step in preserving Ukraine's fish resources and promotes the health of aquatic ecosystems. After the ban period ends, anglers will be able to enjoy the fish spawning, which, hopefully, will bring immense pleasure to all fishing enthusiasts.
