Every day at 9 AM, Ukrainians honor the memory of all whose lives were taken by the Russo-Ukrainian war. Today we remember Dmytro Muzyka.

Senior Sergeant, commander of the observation platoon of the reconnaissance company of military unit A 1619, Junior Sergeant Dmytro Oleksandrovych Muzyka passed away on July 1, 2024, while performing a combat mission in the settlement of Krasnohriivka, Donetsk region, due to a mine-explosion injury. This was reported by the soldier's wife, Maryna Muzyka, in a petition on the website of the President of Ukraine.

Dmytro was born on June 30, 1993, in the village of Kovalivka, Mykolaiv region. Later, he moved with his family to Vinnytsia region.

He began his service as a defender in 2017, as part of the 131st Brigade. In 2019, he was wounded by a sniper. The bullet hit the bulletproof vest, resulting in fragments hitting his eye.

Return to the front and combat feats

At the Time of the full-scale invasion, Muzyka was working in the Czech Republic, but he immediately returned home, and on March 4, he joined the defense of our state as part of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk. He participated in fierce battles for the liberation of Kherson and Donetsk regions, during which he sustained injuries of varying severity, but always returned to duty.

During his service during the full-scale invasion, he made over 300 combat sorties. In the summer and autumn of 2022, he participated in assaults on Lyubomyrivka, Novohryhorivka, and Ternovi Pody.

In May 2023, he was the group leader during an assault in the settlement of Nevelske in Donetsk region, where his group managed to capture 22 enemies. According to his wife, one time he evacuated people from encirclement. At that time, the couple lived in the village of Selydove, where Maryna was the only civilian in the settlement. Soon they celebrated Easter together with his comrades.

“I was always proud of him, but at that moment it seemed to me that it was not Easter, but a day of glorification of my husband. So much was said about him, so many lives he saved. You do not think about this until the people he saved start talking about it. It’s a strange thing, but when I lived with him in Donetsk region, I felt safer there with him than anywhere else. I thought he could deflect rockets with his hands. He always told me: “My home is wherever you are,” recalls Maryna Muzyka.

He conducted mining in the enemy's rear along their movement routes in the city of Krasnohriivka, as a result of which enemy equipment and occupiers were blown up.

Dmytro Muzyka was killed on July 1, 2024, while performing a combat mission in the settlement of Krasnohriivka, Donetsk region, due to a mine-explosion injury.

The first shot hit him and the commander immediately. The commander was hit in the leg, and he was hit in the leg and side. A fragment remained in him. This was my biggest fear - to lose him,” says the soldier's wife, Maryna.

One of Dmytro's protective charms was a bracelet made by his wife. During one of the combat sorties, the bracelet broke, but he kept the detail - a silver trident. He attached it to a pin on his clothing.

“This was his charm, his lucky pin. When he died, we were given back everything that was on him at the morgue; I returned everything to him except this. I kept it as a memory; now I carry it with me always,” says his wife.

Muzyka repeatedly risked his life to evacuate his comrades from the battlefield, always returning to perform critical tasks if they could not be completed immediately. He was a true friend and a reliable brother-in-arms.

For his service, he was awarded medals and honors:

  • President of Ukraine's award for participation in the anti-terrorist operation
  • Medal for courage
  • Award for service to the state
  • Medal for defender of the Motherland
  • Order for courage of III degree.

“Glavkom” joins the minute of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the fight for the homeland. We remember those who perished at the hands of Russian invaders, light candles of remembrance, and bow our heads in grief during the nationwide minute of silence, honoring the bright memory of citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all military personnel, civilians, and children, all those who died in the struggle against Russian occupiers and as a result of the attack of enemy troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
