New 2026 Travel Rules for Ukrainians: Food Bans and Minimum Cash Requirements.
Updated Border Crossing Regulations for Ukrainians in 2026
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainians planning international travel in 2026 must prepare for new regulations governing the transport of specific food items and mandatory cash requirements. These rules are part of broader EU and neighboring country border control measures. The following food products are now prohibited from being carried across the border:
- Sausages and deli meats,
- Fresh meat and meat products,
- Lard,
- Meat-based canned goods,
- Dairy products.
Failure to comply with these restrictions can result in fines ranging from 50 to 1000 euros.
Mandatory Proof of Funds for Entry
In addition to the food restrictions, travelers must also meet minimum cash requirements when entering certain countries. These rules are designed to ensure visitors have sufficient means for their stay. For example:
- For Poland, Ukrainians need 300 złoty for trips up to 4 days, or 75 złoty per day for longer stays.
- Slovakia requires 56 euros per day.
- Hungary sets a lower threshold of just 3 euros per day of stay.
- Regarding Romania, there is currently no official data confirming border checks for proof of funds.
These changes to food transport and financial proof regulations could significantly impact the travel plans of Ukrainians going abroad. The responsibility for adhering to the new norms falls on each traveler, making prior research essential. This shift also reflects a trend toward stricter border control regulation, likely in response to global health and security concerns. Complying with these rules will help avoid unexpected delays and penalties during border crossings.
