Protective Wall: Poland Names Timelines for Strengthening the Border with Belarus.

Poland's Minister of Migration Maciej Duszczyk plans to complete the construction and strengthen the wall at the border with Belarus by mid-2025 to prevent illegal migration.

According to the Financial Times, Duszczyk stated that after the completion of works near the 400-kilometer border with Belarus, security at the border will be achieved at 100%.

“This artificially created migration route will be closed next summer, I hope and believe in it,” Duszczyk said.

However, he also stated that Warsaw should be prepared for further attempts by Lukashenko's regime to 'escalate conflicts' and sabotage the strengthened border infrastructure in Poland.

Additional measures near the 400-kilometer border include night vision cameras, thermal imagers, a new patrol road, and reinforcing the five-meter steel fence that was erected in 2022.

The strain in relations between Poland and Belarus has increased following Russian aggression in Ukraine. Warsaw accuses Minsk of intending to control migrant flows to pressure the EU – an accusation that Belarus denies.
