EU postpones decision on frozen Russian assets for Ukraine: what is the reason.
EU leaders postponed the discussion on frozen Russian assets
According to ТСН: Leaders of the European Union have decided to temporarily suspend discussions on the use of frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine's needs.
According to reports, negotiations to grant Ukraine access to these assets for supporting its defense efforts in the war against Russia, which began in Brussels, have proven to be challenging.
“Reaching a common decision remains an extremely difficult task, as there is no unified position among EU member states regarding the mechanisms for financing support for Kyiv,” the statement reads.
In particular, Belgium, which holds the largest share of frozen Russian assets, opposes such a decision. The country's Prime Minister Bart De Wever expressed his disagreement with the use of these assets to finance Ukraine.
These negotiations take place against the backdrop of serious risks, as the EU's decision could significantly impact Ukraine's capabilities in its fight against Russian aggression.
To date, the discussion on frozen assets remains in the spotlight, as it not only affects financial support for Ukraine but also the overall strategy of the European Union in its relations with Russia. Continuing negotiations and seeking compromise will be decisive for the future development of the situation.
