Ukrainian Collaborator Receives 15-Year Sentence

According to Novyny.live: A resident of Zaporizhzhia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to bomb a post office on instructions from the Russian Federation. The man was apprehended by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in February 2024, after he began collaborating with the enemy in the autumn of 2023. This case highlights the ongoing security challenges Ukraine faces from within its own borders during the war.

The 33-year-old defendant, an employee at a local food production company, planned to remotely detonate a bomb disguised as a parcel containing food items. The Shevchenkivskyi District Court found him guilty of state treason and preparing a terrorist act. The court's sentence includes 15 years of imprisonment and the full confiscation of his property.

Dangers of Collaboration with the Enemy

Russian operatives had promised the man a payment of 5,000 US dollars for successfully carrying out the attack. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threats posed by collaborationist activities and the potential for terrorist acts that endanger civilian safety. Such plots are part of a broader pattern of Russian intelligence efforts to recruit locals for sabotage.

The issue of collaboration remains a significant concern in Ukraine, particularly under the conditions of the ongoing armed conflict. Cases like this demonstrate attempts by Russian special services to exploit local residents to carry out terrorist plans, underscoring the critical importance of security measures and countering disinformation. Judicial rulings in these matters form part of the state's wider strategy to ensure national security and combat terrorism.
