The detained former head of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service of Lviv region has received a new position.


The former head of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service of Lviv region is working in a new position
Former head of the Main Directorate of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service of Lviv region, Yevhen Barkyt, who was detained last year on suspicion of bribery, is now heading the Lviv District Department of the same institution. This was reported on the website of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service. Barkyt himself stated that he was transferred to a new position at his own request.
«I voluntarily submitted a request to be transferred to a lower position due to health reasons and family circumstances. I am raising a disabled grandson. I do not have the opportunity to devote so much Time to work», - Barkyt explained.
Barkyt headed the Main Directorate of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service of Lviv region for over seven years. In August 2023, he, along with the head of the agricultural machinery registration department Teodoziy Denysiak, was detained on suspicion of bribery. According to the investigation, they provided a bribe to a police officer for not holding the service employees accountable. The total amount of the bribe was $4,000.
Currently, the criminal proceedings against Barkyt and Denysiak are under consideration in court, with the next hearing scheduled for January 22, 2025.
The head of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support in Volyn has also been charged with bribery.
In turn, the police have dismantled mobilization evasion schemes involving representatives of territorial recruitment centers in various regions of Ukraine.
In addition, the head of the territorial recruitment center in Transcarpathia and the deputy commander of one of the territorial defense brigades have also been detained for attempting to abuse power.
