Why US-Iran Tensions Are Delaying Talks as Zelensky Signals Readiness for a Three-Way Summit.
Ukraine Pushes for Trilateral Peace Talks Amid US Focus on Iran
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced his country’s readiness to participate in a three-way peace meeting, though the talks are currently being postponed due to Washington’s attention shifting toward Iran. The meeting was originally scheduled for March 30, and Kyiv’s delegation is prepared to engage in any format—except with Russia or Belarus directly. The United States proposed holding the summit on American soil, a suggestion that Ukraine has welcomed.
However, Moscow has rejected the US venue and instead proposed alternatives such as Turkey or Switzerland. Zelensky stressed that negotiations will continue, stating:
“The trilateral meeting will happen when both sides—Russia and America—are able to sit down with us.” - Volodymyr Zelensky
He also emphasized the need to arrange a three-way meeting to keep the diplomatic track alive:
“We must organize a trilateral meeting and move forward on the diplomatic path.” - Volodymyr Zelensky
Gratitude Toward Europe and Next Steps
Zelensky also expressed appreciation for Europe, which he said has not forgotten about the situation in Ukraine:
- “I am grateful to Europe, which does not forget.”
- The Ukrainian president expressed hope that “God willing, in the coming weeks we will have such an opportunity” to hold the meeting.
As a result, the next moves in the negotiation process remain uncertain, with the international community closely watching developments. This situation underscores the complexity of diplomatic efforts, as the parties involved have conflicting preferences for the meeting’s location, potentially prolonging the talks. At the same time, Ukraine’s proactive stance and Europe’s continued support highlight a shared commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict—a priority for the global community.
