Ukraine’s Constitution Turns 30: Svyrydenko Highlights the Nation’s Democratic Choice.
Ukraine Marks 30 Years of Its Constitution
According to UATV: Ukraine recently commemorated the 30th anniversary of its Constitution, the document that enshrines the country’s sovereignty and democratic principles. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko underscored the Constitution’s significance in advancing Ukraine’s European integration ambitions. She emphasized that the fundamental law, adopted three decades ago, cemented Ukrainians’ commitment to building a sovereign, democratic, and law-based state.
Svyrydenko expressed gratitude to the country’s defenders—both men and women—who risk their lives daily to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution. She stated:
“We thank our defenders—men and women—who stand up for this choice every day.” – Yulia Svyrydenko
She also thanked every Ukrainian citizen for their contributions to strengthening the nation:
“We thank each and every one of the millions of Ukrainians who, through their daily work, are building a stronger state.” – Yulia Svyrydenko
Why This Anniversary Matters
Against this backdrop, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted a bill to parliament proposing the creation of a Ukrainian National Pantheon—a move that underscores the importance of preserving national memory and honoring Ukraine’s history. The anniversary celebration marks a significant moment for Ukrainian society, which continues to pursue democratic development and European integration.
Today’s commemoration of the Constitution’s 30th anniversary reflects not only past achievements but also the current challenges Ukraine faces. Amid war and external threats, questions of sovereignty and democratic values remain critically relevant for Ukrainians. The proposed National Pantheon law could serve as a key step in safeguarding national memory and fostering a unified identity—both essential for Ukraine’s European path and national security.
