Ukraine and Qatar Sign 10-Year Defense Agreement During Zelenskyy's Doha Visit.
Meeting Between Ukraine’s President and the Emir of Qatar
According to UATV: On March 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha. Their discussions centered on security matters and defense cooperation between the two nations. As a result, a military-to-military agreement was signed, establishing a mutually beneficial defense partnership lasting at least a decade.
Zelenskyy emphasized that both sides explored ways to enhance the protection of lives in their respective countries. He also announced the signing of an agreement encompassing joint defense industry projects, co-production initiatives, and technology partnerships between companies from both countries.
“After the meeting, the chiefs of our general staffs signed the relevant agreement,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Ukrainian leader also briefed his Qatari counterpart on the security situation in Ukraine, highlighting ongoing Russian attacks and Moscow’s close collaboration with the Iranian regime. Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, also attended the meeting, underscoring the growing importance of Ukraine-Qatar defense ties. This visit comes as Ukraine seeks to broaden its international support network amid the prolonged war.
Outlook for Ukraine-Qatar Cooperation
This meeting reflects Ukraine’s drive to strengthen its defensive posture in the face of continued Russian aggression. Partnering with Qatar could become a key component in bolstering Ukraine’s security and advancing its defense infrastructure.
