Preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference

According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has confirmed readiness for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, scheduled for June 25–26 in Gdańsk. According to Sybiha,

“on Monday, we will report to the President of Ukraine on the state of preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, the implications of various decisions, and the modalities of its conduct.”

Ukraine-Poland Relations

A pivotal moment in Ukraine-Poland relations came on May 26, when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree granting the honorary designation 'named after the UPA heroes' to the Special Operations Center 'North.' This decision sparked controversy, as on May 29, Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced his intention to strip Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.

On June 19, Nawrocki formally revoked the order, leading to diplomatic friction between the two nations. On June 5, Donald Tusk stated that

“the responsibility for resolving the situation lies with the Ukrainian side.”
In response, on June 20, Zelenskyy commented on Nawrocki's decision, noting that he had returned the award to the Polish head of state.

On June 8, Poland hosted a meeting of the Chapter of the Order of the White Eagle, where issues related to the award were discussed. In light of Tusk's remarks, Włodzimierz Czarzasty emphasized that 'it is in Poland’s interest to maintain good relations with Ukraine, rather than escalate disputes over historical policy.'

As a result, the atmosphere between Ukraine and Poland remains tense. The upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference could serve as a critical juncture for bilateral ties. Beyond focusing on reconstruction, the event may offer a platform to address contentious historical issues affecting the relationship. A successful conference could help ease tensions and bolster cooperation between the two countries.
