The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that in order for Russia to agree to end the war, it must run out of money. He believes that stricter sanctions should be imposed, particularly against Russian oil. He made this statement in an evening video address on August 5.
Russia Plans to Intensify Strikes on Ukraine
Zelensky summarized the conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. He stated that Trump is well-informed about Russian strikes and the situation at the front. Zelensky supported the proposal for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized that the cause of the war is the desire of Russians to control the lives of Ukrainians and kill them.
The President convened a meeting of the Headquarters and extended the contractual term for servicemen to 18-24 months. Zelensky also spoke with the Prime Ministers of Greece and Croatia, discussing the strengthening of Ukraine's air defense and receiving assistance from European countries.
