Ukraine's Zelenskyy and Security Chief Map New Operations Against Russia.
Ukrainian President Meets with Security Service Leadership
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has detailed the active work of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and discussed new operational plans in meetings with its leadership. On January 19, 2023, he met with the acting head of the SBU, Yevhen Khmar. This meeting followed Khmar's appointment as acting head of the service, which took place on January 5, 2023. These high-level discussions underscore Ukraine's ongoing strategic planning in the face of Russian aggression.
Focus on Asymmetric Action and Accountability
During the talks, Zelenskyy emphasized preparations for asymmetric operations against Russia, including in a meeting with Vasyl Maliuk. The President stressed the critical importance of accountability for crimes committed, stating:
“Every Russian killer must answer for what they have done.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
This statement reflects the determination of Ukraine's leadership in confronting the aggressor state.
Zelenskyy also assured that “all necessary resources for the Security Service of Ukraine and other state structures are fully provided.” This indicates the readiness of Ukrainian forces for new challenges and the execution of planned operations. The urgency of these actions is highlighted against the backdrop of tragic events, such as the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Kursk region, which occurred in October 2022. The conflict has seen both conventional warfare and a shadow war of intelligence and special operations.
These meetings and discussions point to an intensification of activity by Ukrainian special services within the context of the armed conflict with Russia. Preparing asymmetric operations could become a key element of Ukraine's strategy to counter aggression and protect national interests. Considering recent events, including the killing of prisoners, Ukrainian leadership is demonstrating resolve in responding to crimes committed against the Ukrainian people.
