Ukraine’s Security and Defense Budget Gets a $1.56 Trillion Hryvnia Boost as President Signs Amendment.
Ukraine’s Budget Gets a Major Overhaul
According to Novyny.live: On June 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Draft Law No. 15224, which amends the national budget. The most significant change is an additional allocation of 1.56 trillion hryvnias for security and defense. This move aims to strengthen funding for key state priorities amid ongoing challenges.
Despite the sweeping adjustments, the total budget for the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) remains unchanged. The subsistence minimum used to calculate NABU employees’ salaries is set at 3,328 hryvnias, reflecting steady support for anti-corruption efforts.
Energy Sector and Social Programs Also See New Funding
The energy sector receives a notable infusion of cash. The Ministry of Energy gets 559.1 million hryvnias, while the State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision is allocated 46.1 million hryvnias. Additionally, 127.5 million hryvnias are earmarked for closing coal mines, a step toward environmental safety and cleaner energy sources.
Other state agencies also benefit from the revised budget:
- The State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management receives 599.1 million hryvnias, with 525.1 million of that going to the Shelter Object.
- The State Fisheries Agency gets 10 million hryvnias.
- The National Sports Committee for Persons with Disabilities sees a reallocation of 95 million hryvnias.
These changes highlight the government’s commitment to balancing security needs with social initiatives.
Signing Draft Law No. 15224 marks a critical step in reinforcing Ukraine’s financial foundation in the face of modern challenges.
