Zelenskyy Confirms Massive Strikes on Russian Refineries: Saratov, Volgograd, Rostov.
Ukraine's Defense Forces Strike Key Russian Military and Energy Sites
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a series of strikes by the country's defense forces against critical military and energy infrastructure within Russia. In the early hours of May 31, Ukrainian troops targeted an oil refinery in Saratov, located roughly 700 kilometers from the front line. Zelenskyy called this a significant achievement and thanked the soldiers for completing their mission. These operations are part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to degrade Russia's war capabilities by hitting high-value assets deep inside its territory.
Additional strikes were carried out against an oil refinery in the Rostov region, targets in the Kirov area, and a military base on the Caspian Sea. Ukraine's General Staff confirmed damage to the large 'Saratovsky' refinery and the 'Lazarevo' pipeline station. The long-range operations follow an approved plan that includes hitting facilities across multiple Russian regions.
Ukrainian Military Achievements Over the Past Week
Over the last seven days, Ukrainian forces successfully struck targets in:
- Yaroslavl
- Ryazan
- Voronezh
- Volgograd
- Rostov
- Novgorod
- Nizhny Novgorod
- Krasnodar regions
These strikes were launched from distances ranging between 300 and 1,200 kilometers from Ukraine's border. Among the sites hit were the Volgograd oil refinery, the 'Yaroslavl-3' oil pumping station, and a 'Tor-M2' surface-to-air missile system.
“Our Defense Forces of Ukraine are carrying out long-range missions in accordance with the approved priorities of such sanctions plan,” stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
These attacks are part of a Ukrainian strategy to destroy enemy military resources and reduce Russia's ability to wage war. Under this new approach, Ukrainian forces are expanding the geographic scope of their operations, which could shift the strategic balance in the region. Such actions also signal a change in Ukraine's military tactics, as it aims to maintain pressure on Russia through precise strikes on critical infrastructure.
