President’s Address to Law Enforcement

According to UATV: On July 4, Ukraine’s National Police Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a message commending the country’s law enforcement officers. He emphasized their daily commitment to safeguarding the nation, noting that their service often comes with life-threatening dangers yet remains essential for state security.

'Today it is important to thank our police officers, who serve every day for the security of Ukraine.' – Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy further underscored that while this line of work frequently involves mortal risk, the nation’s safety would be unimaginable without it:

'This is daily work that is often associated with risk to life, but without which the security of our state is impossible to imagine.' – Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Current Situation in Ukraine

Ukraine continues to face a difficult security environment. In May 2023 alone, 274 civilians were killed and nearly 1,800 others wounded across the country. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the United Nations has confirmed over 16,000 civilian deaths, including nearly 800 children. These figures underscore the critical role of law enforcement in a context where civilian safety remains the state’s top priority.

The observance of National Police Day serves as a stark reminder of the importance of police work amid Ukraine’s ongoing war. By highlighting the risks officers endure, President Zelenskyy draws attention to their indispensable role in maintaining stability and order. The mention of civilian casualties reinforces that Ukraine remains in a high-tension situation, where security and rule-of-law issues demand constant vigilance.
