Zelenskyy Attributes Ukraine's 500-1000 km Missile Capabilities to Domestic Development.
Ukraine's Long-Range Strike Capabilities
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the majority of his nation's long-range strike power stems from its own domestic research and development. He clarified that only a limited quantity of such weaponry has been supplied by international partners, specifically listing:
- Storm Shadow missiles from the United Kingdom,
- SCALP missiles from France,
- and a restricted number of ATACMS from the United States.
The operational range of these foreign-provided systems, however, does not exceed 200-250 kilometers.
The Critical Role of National Technology
President Zelenskyy emphasized that 'we have never received anything else from other countries with a range of more than 200 or 250 km. Never.' According to him, all long-range capabilities exceeding 500 to 1000 kilometers were developed within Ukraine. He stated:
All of these long-range capabilities—500-1000 km and beyond—were created in Ukraine. — Volodymyr Zelenskyy
These remarks underscore the vital importance of local technological innovation for Ukraine's defense sector. With foreign supplies often constrained by political considerations, indigenous development has become crucial for maintaining strategic autonomy and the ability to counter threats at distance. This focus on domestic production highlights Ukraine's evolving role as a developer of advanced military technology, a necessity driven by the ongoing conflict with Russia.
