US, Ukraine, and Russia in Dialogue Over Donbas

According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that Donald Trump could engage in direct talks with Vladimir Putin concerning the future of the Donbas region. Zelenskyy emphasized that the United States is pushing to end the war before the start of summer. According to him, the US has proposed that Russia and Ukraine reach a peace agreement by this deadline, which could open new avenues for negotiation. This comes amid heightened international efforts to resolve the long-standing conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian and Russian negotiation groups could meet in the United States within a week. The significance of this potential meeting lies in its capacity to become a pivotal stage in the peace settlement process. He also underscored his own readiness for dialogue, stating:

“Give me all of Donbas, and I will end the war” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Furthermore, Zelenskyy expressed hope that American officials would remain active participants in the negotiation process:

“It is desirable that the Americans do not leave” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy

He also stressed that it is crucial for Ukraine to have a clear action plan for the negotiations:

  • “We have long proposed to the American side to have a truly clear Sequence Plan”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy asserted that Russia would pay an 'extremely high price' for any attempt to seize the entire Donetsk region, a factor he indicated could be significant in the negotiation process.

Thus, Zelenskyy's comments point to an intensification of international efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the Donbas conflict. The involvement of the United States, given its substantial influence over Russia, could create new opportunities for reaching an agreement. A constructive approach from all sides, focused on achieving a stable peace in the region, remains essential.
