Zelenskyy Calls for Ironclad Security Guarantees to Deter Future Russian Aggression.
Security Guarantees for Ukraine
According to UATV: In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy argued that Ukraine requires robust security guarantees to counter the threat of renewed aggression from Russia. He stressed that no one can provide absolute assurance that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not launch another attack, making strong international commitments essential for Ukraine's future defense.
“As of today, no one can give us a very firm promise,” Zelenskyy stated.
He further emphasized that “we need strong security guarantees that the rest of the world, or certain countries, will be prepared to respond to Putin.” These remarks underscore Ukraine's determination to secure binding international support to ensure its long-term safety. This appeal comes as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty against a full-scale invasion that began in February 2022.
Willingness to Compromise
President Zelenskyy also declared that Ukraine is prepared to make compromises to end the war, but not at the expense of surrendering its territory. This position highlights a desire for peace while maintaining national sovereignty as an absolute priority.
Zelenskyy's statements reflect the critical situation in Ukraine, where the threat from Russia remains a daily reality. The pursuit of international security guarantees is a vital step toward strengthening the country's defensive capabilities and reducing the risks of future aggression. While a readiness for compromise signals Ukraine's intent to seek peace, the protection of its territorial integrity will remain a non-negotiable cornerstone in any diplomatic discussions.
