Zelenskyy Sees Czech L-159 Jets as Potential Key Defense Against Shahed Drones.

According to Novyny.live: In an interview with Czech media outlet Český rozhlas, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the L-159 aircraft could become a crucial component in Ukraine's defense against Russian Shahed-type drones. He emphasized Ukraine's urgent need to acquire these jets, as they could prove effective in destroying the Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles that threaten Ukrainian airspace.

Ukraine's Layered Air Defense Strategy

Zelenskyy outlined that protecting Ukraine's skies involves a multi-layered approach, which includes:

• mobile fire teams
• electronic warfare systems
• interceptor drones
• combat aircraft
• various air defense configurations

He also noted that Ukraine is interested in other aircraft models beyond the L-159.

The President added that if the Czech Republic can provide these aircraft to Ukraine, the next step would involve testing the L-159 in Ukrainian conditions.

He expressed hope that the Czech manufacturer would also be interested in signing contracts for newer models, which could be financially beneficial for the Czech side. The potential acquisition of L-159 jets could therefore provide a significant boost to Ukraine's air defense efforts. These single-engine light combat aircraft, originally developed for the Czech Air Force, are well-suited for such interception roles.
