Geneva Negotiations

According to Novyny.live: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Ukrainian team ahead of the next round of negotiations in Geneva, scheduled for February 18, 2023. He stated that while Russia is dragging out the negotiation process, there remains a possibility of achieving results. The President emphasized the importance of the humanitarian track, particularly the exchange of prisoners of war, as a key objective for the Ukrainian delegation. These talks are part of ongoing international diplomatic efforts to address the conflict.

Delegation's Objectives

The negotiations involve Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. A meeting lasting four hours took place on February 17, 2023. Volodymyr Zelenskyy set a clear task for the Ukrainian delegation:

“do everything to ensure that the talks are nevertheless productive and increase the chances for peaceful solutions.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

He also reported that the Ukrainian delegation, together with the American team, met with European representatives from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Zelenskyy noted that

“we can state that Russia is trying to drag out negotiations that could have already reached a final stage.”
This highlights the complexity of the negotiation process and the need for proactive steps from the Ukrainian side to achieve progress in future meetings.

The talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia play a crucial role in the search for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Russia's stalling tactics may indicate a lack of genuine readiness for compromise, which complicates the situation. In this context, the active diplomatic engagement of Ukraine and its partners becomes especially vital for securing positive outcomes in upcoming sessions.
