Zelensky on the situation with electricity in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv was insufficiently prepared for the emergency in energy. The statement was made on January 14, 2023, during a discussion of the current situation in the capital. Zelensky emphasized that
“Kyiv, unfortunately, did significantly less”to ensure the stability of the energy system amid the crisis.
Denys Shmyhal, the new Minister of Energy of Ukraine, also noted that Kyiv was unprepared for attacks on the energy system, complicating the situation. In response to the challenges, Yulia Svyrydenko, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, announced improvements in the electricity situation in Kyiv in the coming days, emphasizing the need for urgent measures. Zelensky added that
“everything needs to be urgently corrected now”, stressing the importance of quick actions to improve the energy situation in the capital.
Challenges of the Energy System
This situation underscores the current challenges faced by Ukraine's energy system amid the war. Coordination between state structures is crucial to ensure the stability of electricity supply, especially in the face of threats from external factors. The government's response to these challenges and the speed of implementing measures can significantly affect the energy security of the capital and the country as a whole.
