Russia Issues Two-Month Ultimatum for Ukraine to Leave Donbas, Warns of Seizure, Says Zelensky.
Statement by President Volodymyr Zelensky
According to Novyny.live: On March 31, President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a statement expressing deep concern over Russia’s threats to seize the Donbas within two months. According to him, Moscow has set a deadline for Ukraine to withdraw from the region, and warnings of military escalation remain active. Zelensky also noted that there are currently no signs from Russia indicating a willingness to agree to an energy ceasefire.
The president made clear that if Russia launches an attack, Ukraine is prepared to retaliate.
“If they strike us, we will strike back. If they are ready to stop, we will act in kind,” he stated. He further warned against accepting peace on Moscow’s terms, calling such an outcome a 'major risk, or even a historic mistake'.
The Critical Role of International Support
In his remarks, Zelensky highlighted the importance of U.S. positions in the context of the war, a factor that adds to Ukraine’s concerns. Russia continues to covet the Donbas, and the situation remains highly tense. With no progress in peace talks and ongoing threats from the aggressor, Ukraine is actively seeking ways to defend its territories and population.
Zelensky’s statement underscores the critical challenges Ukraine faces as the conflict with Russia drags on. The growing alarm over potential military action points to rising tensions in the region, which could affect the security not only of Ukraine but also of neighboring countries. Sustained international backing—especially from the United States—remains essential for maintaining stability and safeguarding Ukrainian interests in this difficult scenario.
