Zelenskyy Clarifies UAE Deal: Will Ukrainian Troops Be Deployed to the Middle East?.
Ukrainian President Comments on Agreement with the UAE
According to Novyny.live: On March 28, during a meeting with UAE leader Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the recently signed agreement between Kyiv and Abu Dhabi. He made it clear that the deal does not involve sending Ukrainian soldiers to fight in Middle Eastern conflicts. This clarification comes amid growing public curiosity about the scope of the partnership.
The agreement between Ukraine and the UAE focuses primarily on defense and security cooperation. In a parallel development, Ukraine also secured a defense partnership with Qatar, which is set to last at least ten years. The chiefs of staff from both Ukraine and Qatar signed the corresponding document, signaling a significant strengthening of bilateral military ties.
Zelenskyy stated: 'The agreement with the UAE does not provide for the participation of Ukrainian troops in wars in the Middle East.'
This statement underscores Ukraine's commitment to maintaining neutrality in regional conflicts while still advancing defense collaboration with these Gulf nations.
Strengthening Defense Ties
The deepening of defense links between Ukraine and Middle Eastern countries highlights Kyiv's increasingly proactive foreign policy in the security domain. These agreements with the UAE and Qatar could serve as a foundation for future military cooperation, especially relevant amid rising regional tensions. At the same time, Ukraine's stance on non-involvement in local conflicts reflects its desire for stability and its intent to avoid being drawn into hostilities—a position that may enhance the country's international standing.
