Zelensky on security guarantees for Ukraine: what conditions are discussed with allies.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, detailed the conditions and prospects for obtaining future security guarantees for the country within the framework of peace negotiations.
He shared his thoughts in response to journalists' questions during an online conference.
"First of all, the Ukrainian conditions, perhaps not conditions, the desire was to join NATO, and these were the real security guarantees. For example, the ones that partners received from the States, the support from Europe was not provided," he said.
The President reminded that Ukraine's aspiration to become part of NATO has always been one of the key priorities, but full support from allies has not been there.
"Therefore, today bilateral security guarantees between Ukraine and the USA, namely the Article 5-like guarantees from the USA for us, and security guarantees from European colleagues for us, as well as other countries: Canada, Japan, these security guarantees for us are a possibility to prevent another wave of Russian aggression. And this is already a compromise on our part," he said.
Thus, the President emphasized the importance of international guarantees to ensure Ukraine's security in the face of threats from Russia.
In the context of the current challenges the country faces, the search for reliable partners and the conclusion of security agreements is becoming increasingly relevant. Guarantees from the USA and other countries can become an important step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and preventing further aggression from Russia.
