Zelensky responded to Trump's plan: the tactic is yes, but

According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, with the support of European allies, prepared his response to the "peace plan" of U.S. President Donald Trump. In summary, his position boils down to "Yes, but...".

This approach allowed Zelensky to join Trump's peaceful vision while maintaining political trust in Ukraine. Last week, during meetings with European leaders, the president adapted the plan to make it acceptable for Ukraine, not rejecting it and not excluding Trump.

Control over territories

Discussing one of the most difficult topics – control over the unoccupied territories of the Donetsk region, Zelensky emphasized the importance of monitoring and fairness in U.S. initiatives regarding the cessation of the war.

The proposal supported by the U.S. envisions transforming these territories into a "free economic zone" or "demilitarized zone". In this zone, Ukraine will withdraw its troops, and access to Russian military personnel will be prohibited.

"Zelensky has already used his negotiation tactic of 'yes, but...' in the past. When the Trump administration pressured Kyiv to agree to a deal granting the U.S. access to Ukraine's mineral resources, Kyiv achieved more favorable conditions by refusing to sign the deal immediately," the media notes.

Discussion of the peace plan

Recall that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen discussed the "peace plan" to stop Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as options for using frozen Russian assets.

Additionally, it became known that Finnish President Alexander Stubb will participate in discussions regarding the situation in Ukraine, which will take place in Berlin, Germany next Monday.

These negotiations could be an important step in strengthening international support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing war and searching for possible paths to peace. It is important that such meetings occur in cooperation with key European partners, highlighting unity on the issue of Ukrainian security.
