Ukrainian President Meets with German Chancellor

According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a crucial meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Munich on February 13. Their discussions centered on key issues, including military aid for Ukraine, joint weapons production projects, and support for the country's energy infrastructure. Diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace in the region were also a major focus. This meeting underscores Germany's pivotal role as one of Ukraine's leading European supporters.

Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would compile and send its partners a list of needs for both energy infrastructure and military support, expressing hope for a strong response.

“Attention and security guarantees for Ukraine and all of Europe,” the President emphasized.
He added that separate work would be done on matters related to air defense missiles and other aspects that could strengthen Ukraine's armed forces. “We want, within 10–11 days, by February 24 – and all partners have agreed to this – to form maximum support packages for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy noted.

62nd Munich Security Conference

The bilateral talks took place against the backdrop of the 62nd Munich Security Conference, which also commenced on February 13. The conference brings together around 50 heads of state, including U.S. President Marco Rubio and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. One significant topic of negotiation was the return of 157 Ukrainians from Russian captivity. Thus, the Zelenskyy-Merz meeting formed a key part of the diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine amid ongoing challenges.

This high-level engagement highlights the critical importance of sustained international backing for Ukraine, particularly as the conflict continues. Cooperation with Germany and other allies is seen as decisive for strengthening the country's defense capabilities and stability. The outcomes of these negotiations are expected to influence the international community's next steps in ensuring regional security and helping Ukraine overcome the challenges posed by aggression. The significance of this diplomatic moment is further amplified by its setting at the Munich Security Conference, where global security issues are at the forefront.
