According to UATV: Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy argued that achieving a genuine peace is only possible with unambiguous security guarantees. He discussed Europe's role in potential peace negotiations and reaffirmed Ukraine's readiness for a real and lasting peace. Zelenskyy stressed the undeniable necessity for a unified European defense policy and a clear security framework. The annual Munich conference is a major global forum where defense and diplomatic strategies are debated by world leaders.
During his speech, Zelenskyy drew historical parallels to the events in Munich in 1938 and 2007, urging the international audience to finally pay proper attention to Ukraine's situation.
“Please, pay attention to Ukraine. Had this been done earlier, this war would not have started,” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
He further stated that Ukraine is prepared for an agreement that would deliver a true peace.
“Peace can only be built on clear security guarantees,” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Members of Ukraine's negotiation team remain in contact with U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled for the conference day. Zelenskyy emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that, four years from now, the civilized world will not be forced to justify its inaction yet again, underscoring that:
- “When people ask today what the price of an agreement might be, our answer is simple: the main thing is that in four years, the civilized world should not have to justify itself again.”
