Zelenskyy Sets Belarus a Demand: Remove Relay Stations Used by Russia.
Zelenskyy Warns Lukashenko Over Aid to Russia
According to Novyny.live: On June 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Belarus must prove it has ended its support for Russia in the war against Ukraine. Speaking during a national telethon, he stressed the need to halt technical assistance, particularly the role Belarusian infrastructure plays in enabling Russian attacks.
“Step number one is no technical support. Remove the relay stations and show us it has been done.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy emphasized that Belarus must take this initial step. Ukraine has identified at least four relay station sites on Belarusian territory, a situation that has raised serious concerns in Kyiv.
The president dismissed any excuses from Belarusian leadership, stating, “Let him keep his apologies to himself. They stopped working after the first day of the war.” This remark underscores the urgency for Belarus to shift its stance amid the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.
Rising Tensions Between Ukraine and Belarus
Zelenskyy’s statement reflects Ukraine’s drive to bolster its security by eliminating any forms of support from neighboring states that could hinder the restoration of peace. It also highlights the strained relations between Ukraine and Belarus, especially given the military cooperation between Minsk and Moscow.
It is crucial for Belarus to heed these calls, as continued backing of Russia could have severe repercussions for regional stability.
