Ukraine Targets Russia and Iran: New Sanctions Signed by President Zelenskyy.
Sanctions Against Aggressors
According to UATV: On May 30, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed two decrees imposing sanctions on individuals and companies from Russia, Iran, Sudan, and several other jurisdictions. These measures align with decisions made by the European Union, highlighting a unified international front against aggression from these nations.
The sanctions apply to 16 Russian citizens and 31 companies registered in Russia, Belarus, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Among the individuals targeted are:
- Prosecutor Lyudmila Balandina
- Judge Dmytro Gordeyev
- Propagandist Maria Sittel
These restrictions affect both individuals and enterprises linked to the military-industrial complex.
Expanded Sanctions List
Additionally, the new measures cover 19 Iranian citizens, 7 Sudanese citizens, and 11 Iranian companies. Notably, companies based in the UAE that trade in equipment and chemicals are also included. These actions are part of Kyiv’s broader strategy to intensify pressure on states and entities that enable aggression against Ukraine.
The latest sanctions build on Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the operations of individuals and businesses involved in military activities against the country. Close coordination with the European Union underscores the international community’s solidarity in countering aggression and curbing destabilizing influences from third-party states. These penalties are expected to significantly impact the economic interests of aggressor nations and serve as an additional tool to strengthen regional security.
