The crash occurred between the 4:40 PM service from Corby to St Pancras and the 3:50 PM train from Nottingham to London St Pancras. The accident site lies between the A421 and A6 roads.

Local residents have been urged to avoid hospitals unless absolutely necessary. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has announced a full investigation into the incident. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has already begun collecting evidence at the scene.

Incident Details

One of the trains involved was a new East Midlands Railway Aurora model, which had only entered service last year. All East Midlands Railway services to and from London St Pancras were suspended for the remainder of the night. Witnesses described the collision as a sudden jolt, with no prior warning signs.

“I thought it was a bomb—I saw smoke, people on the floor, bloodied faces. Many were crying and screaming,” recounted witness Peter Knapp.

This train collision raises serious concerns about railway safety in the United Kingdom. The investigation by the rail inspection authority aims to determine the crash's causes and prevent future incidents. Local authorities and emergency services remain on-site, ensuring victims continue to receive medical care.
