Left Without a Home and Without an Inspection: Kyiv Dorm Residents Forced to Find Housing on Their Own.
Dormitory in Kyiv's Darnytskyi District
According to Novyny.live: A tragedy struck Kyiv's Darnytskyi district on May 24 when a Russian missile destroyed a two-story dormitory. The attack demolished 74 apartments, leaving numerous residents in dire living conditions. While victims received an initial compensation of 40,000 hryvnias, no official expert assessment of the building has been conducted to date. This leaves people uncertain about the future of their homes.
As Oleksandr Saiun noted, 'people have been left in a state of complete uncertainty regarding the future of their homes.'
Compensation for Victims
Residents who lost their homes received initial financial aid, but the search for new housing remains a pressing challenge. Many are forced to look for new places to live on their own, as official measures have yet to be implemented.
Aftermath of the May 24 Attack
The massive assault on May 24 injured 91 people. This attack is part of a broader military aggression, during which the occupying forces launched nearly 700 aerial attack systems, including Kh-101, Iskander-M, Kinzhal, Zircon, and Oreshnik missiles. Beyond the dormitory, destruction was also reported in the Lukyanivka area, where a market and the Kvadrat shopping and entertainment center burned down. Cultural landmarks were also damaged. These events underscore the gravity of the situation in the country and the urgent need for measures to assist those affected.
The May 24 bombardment serves as yet another testament to the ongoing large-scale military aggression in Ukraine, resulting in significant human and material losses. The affected dormitory residents now face new challenges in rebuilding their lives, as official support and organized housing assistance remain absent. Given this, it is crucial to monitor the next steps by state and local authorities in addressing the situation of the victims and their housing needs.
